Design + Environment is a Seattle-based design and consulting company. We design products and services to improve the effectiveness, or reach, of energy efficiency. Our energy efficiency designs integrate into workflow, workplace, office buildings, homes, public transportation, recycling, and more. Our designs work to decrease your use and your utility cost of energy while continuing to produce a desired outcome.
The products we design and consult on share three characteristics:
ongoing energy consumption; varying energy use; and interaction with people. Each use of a product involves interaction with one or more people and use varies every time, no matter how slight. As a byproduct of this variation, some amount of energy is wasted.
Many product designs are unable to address variation of use, user experience satisfaction and efficient use of energy simultaneously. It is common for energy efficiency to decrease as usage variation increases. Our goal is to concurrently improve user experience and energy efficiency regardless of the number of ways people interact with an energy-consuming product in their homes, at work or out and about.
