Design + Environment co. roots started from my mechanical engineering internships in the early 1990s. Hardware control programming for Environment Canada lead to an internship position with an energy management consulting firm. The work there involved energy audits in public buildings, including hospitals, schools and government offices.
A blue light emanating from a television monitor in an unoccupied, dark conference room also motivated the formation of Design + Environment co. The state of an unoccupied conference room with a blue light occurred frequently within the office buildings I worked for 10 years.
A blue screen was always a reminder of wasted electrical energy. Each time I entered a conference room to switch off a monitor I would think that one day I will do something about eliminating energy waste. Design + Environment co. is "that one day."
